The Ultimate Kricket Challenge is a 1v1, fast-paced, indoor game with the biggest cricket stars in the world. The first UKC tournament was held in Dubai, 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic and broadcasted on major sports networks in England, India, and elsewhere. While the broadcast and subsequent YouTube clips from the event fetched millions of views, the UKC brand and website was in desperate need of a professional, modern upgrade before their next tournament.
The owner of the UKC has been inspired by the new phenomenon in the major European Football leagues, of blockchain-based team cryptocurrencies and "fan-tokens" such as Chiliz ($CHZ). These fan-tokens are a new way to provide new opportunities for fan-engagement such as fan voting and participation, prizes and discount incentives, and digital collectibles. Cricket is a typically a slow-paced, traditional game and the UKC exists to provide a modern, fast-paced format of cricket to a younger & tech-savy market. By this logic, it was on-brand to experiment with this emerging technology and be the first to bring it to the cricket world.
To meet these needs and goals, the UKC needed a professional and modern logo, branding, and functional website. Even more importantly, the website needed to function as a token-sale platform for the UKC COIN and provide an easy user experience for crypto veterans and beginners alike.
I worked with a small team of developers to design and develop a UKC COIN cryptocurrency, a token-sale website, a landing page, and a flexible CMS architecture for the client to keep adding information to the site in a cost-effective way. As the designer, I created a logo suite and brand identity for the Ultimate Kricket Challenge as well as a UKC COIN sub-brand. I also designed a Lightpaper document for investors to summarize the project and attract interest with quality graphics and photographs of the more famous UKC cricket players.
The website is a simple interface, drawing inspiration from the popular Uniswap web3 application. The UKC COIN token is deployed on Binance Smart Chain, and the application is capable of accepting 6 different cryptocurrencies in exchange for UKC COIN. To accommodate for fiat-currency customers, we developed a secondary user-flow by integrating a 3rd party fiat-to-crypto exchange service, Moonpay, into the application. By relegating certain intermediary steps to the back-end, we were able to reduce steps for the user and provide a seamless transition from Credit/Debit Card to UKC COIN. The application deposits the UKC COIN directly into the users' Metamask wallet, and accounts for UX scenarios if the user does not have Metamask already installed.
For the UKC brand, I settled on a bold typeface-based logo with a 3-arrow motif taken from the "K" letter to be used as a graphical pattern. I went with dark color scheme with royal purple and blue for the main brand, and determined a gold color for anything specific to the UKC COIN subbrand. I made sure to incorporate player photos from the tournament and created dutotone isolations for use in the lightpaper, posters, and future advertisements.
The UKC COIN is scheduled to launch in Q2 of 2022, with a UKC tournament and coinciding token-sale. Development of digital collectibles, tokenized tickets and voting, and a mobile application is on the table for future upgrades.
