This piece is a part of Bloomberg Philanthropies' Public Art Challenge, where 10 cities in the U.S. were awarded $1,000,000 grants to create public art around specific civic issues. The only mural out of 13 local projects, this piece was designed with consultation from the Great Salt Lake Institute and the Northwestern Band of Shoshone Nation. It's an artistic rendition on the food chain, featuring over 10 species native to the ecosystem, and highlighting the foundational importance of the brine shrimp and flies. The animals all gaze in alignment at Salt Lake City, confronting us and beckoning us to recognize and respect their existence.
